Western Region School A Success
More than sixty participants from across the Western provinces attended the first ever CEP
Western Region School, held January 16th to 20th in Vancouver.
Courses offered at the school were steward training, leadership and collective bargaining.
According to the comments on participant evaluations, the five day format for union education
was very well received, providing the amount of time required to present the subjects in their
complete form.
The school also provided the opportunity to present our new leadership course for the first time.
Which was well received by participants. The course offered instruction in leadership skills,
motivation, problem solving, strategic planning and public speaking. A three-day version of the
course will also be available.
The Western Region education committee will evaluate students’ comments, instructors’
experiences and conduct a survey of local unions regarding their continuing needs in union
education. We will also look at the possibility of making the Western Region school an annual
event.
