Vice-President of Canada’s Largest Forest Union
Demands By-Election
For immediate release
February 6, 2006
Vancouver – “I have just learned that my MP, David Emerson, has crossed the floor to join the Conservative party and has been rewarded with a cabinet post,” stated CEP Western Region Vice President Dave Coles. “Stephen Harper needs to immediately call a by-election in the riding of Vancouver Kingsway.”
“I clearly remember the demands from Mr. Harper and his party for a by-election when Belinda Stronach crossed the floor and joined the Liberal party and was rewarded with a cabinet post,” continues Coles. “This is an opportunity for him to walk the talk of his campaign promises to clean up government.”
“Unless Prime Minister Harper calls for a by-election, he will be smeared with the same patronage brush as the freshly defeated Liberals” concludes Coles. “One would hope that he would have learned something from the election results of just two weeks ago.”
The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union represents 150,000 members from coast to coast, including 40,000 members in Western Canada.
