On June 16 two dozen members of CEP Locals 630 and 1123 held a work party on the grounds of the temporarily shutdown Catalyst Elk Falls mill.

Workers arrived at 11am with mowers and weed whackers in hand.  They worked for a couple of hours taking down the 3 foot high grass along the main entrance to the mill.

In an interview with the Courier-Islander CEP Local 630 President Terry Hoff said that his members were not looking for any accolades.  “We’re just a bunch of employees that still care. There’s a lot of thing that are out of our control, but things like this are in our control”

Also quoted in the June 17th front page story was CEP Local 1123 President Ian Simpson who said:  “Whether Catalyst cares about the community and the way their property looks, the workers care.  “They’ve just let it go to hell and we’re here to try and clean it up, show the community that we do care about the site.  Hopefully we can get back to here working in the next little while.”

The members celebrated their hard work with pizza and soft drinks supplied by the union.
