PEA Staff Take Strike Vote
With the employer’s advisement that they had exceeded their mandate, CEP Local 467 members, who are employed by the Professional Employees Association, commenced a vote on the employer’s proposal for settlement. The result of that vote, taken on July 29th, was the unanimous rejection of the offer and a vote to proceed with strike actions, if necessary.
Outstanding issues between the parties include proposals for a nine-day fortnight schedule; paid time off between Christmas and New Years; a decrease in qualifying time for annual vacation; leave for Jury duty, Jury Selection and Coroners Inquest; leave to seek election to public or aboriginal office; salary increases; issues around transportation and a review and restructuring of current classifications.
According to CEP National Rep Dave Schaub, an application for mediation will be the next step in an attempt to conclude a renewed labour agreement. “There remains a cloud over the process,” states Schaub, “unless the employer’s mandate allows for additional movement”.
